Then Your Next Step Should Be

A Green Home Assessment

Energy Efficiency * Air & Water Quality * Solar Panel Options

The assessment will reveal allergen such as mold, dust mites, pollen, insects and rodents.  We evaluate your filtration for air and water quality, ventilation, and humidification.

Using infrared photography we are able to observe areas of insufficient insulation, air leakage, and water damage.

We check your crawlspace, air ducts, living area, attic and solar site potential.  Before we leave we will show you a digital slideshow and then send you an estimate clearly outlining each issue and the best practice for remediation.

How is Stack effect costing you money and affecting your health?

Stack Effect means that air rises through your home from bottom to top.  As heat rises and goes out the top of your home it causes moist moldy air from your crawlspace to be drawn into your living area.

The Stack Effect draws in unfiltered outside air from your crawl space, doors, windows, and any other cracks and crevices from the outdoors including your bathroom exhaust fan and clothes dryer.  Stack Effect is detrimental in that it adversely impacts the air quality and energy efficiency of your home.

During Your Energy and Air Quality Assessment you’ll be shown how unfiltered and unconditioned air is being drawn into your home.

To correct the stack effect, we seal the holes in the attic which allows conditioned air to escape from the living space. Air sealing the attic and installing a radiant barrier over the fiberglass insulation and air conditioner will help keep the attic pristinely clean and energy efficient while preventing fiberglass, pollen, mold spores and insects from entering the living area.

How effective is the insulation in your attic?

Your home may only have the “code minimum” of insulation not the amount which the Department of Energy recommends

How hot does your attic get?

You may also require a radiant barrier in your attic a solar attic fan.

Is it hard to cool your top floor?

A solar attic fan will improve ventilation and remove hot air in your attic.

When your attic reaches 130 degrees F. it bakes your fiber insulation, transfers heat into your living area during the day and into the night.

By air sealing, increasing the insulation, installing a radiant barrier and solar attic fan, the temperatures in the attic can be reduced by as much as 50 degrees, reducing cooling costs to your living area.

Is your home making you sick?

Headaches, fatigue and allergies are symptoms created by chemicals and allergens within the home.  Air from the crawlspace and attic contain fiberglass, pollen, mold spores, insect parts and greenhouse gases. Air ducts get contaminated and breathing these contaminants affects your health.

We pick up pesticides and heavy metals on our shoes outside which is then transferred to our carpets.  Upon entering our home we should remove our shoes. With proper filtration, ventilation and humidification your home is clean, fresh and of greater value.

“Sick Building Syndrome” occurs when buildings do not have enough ventilation and gases, chemicals, odors and allergens are in concentrations that make people sick. We need to make our buildings tight yet ventilated and insulated right.

The Filtered Fresh Air Ventilation System (FFAVS) provides ventilation, dilution and pressurization, which reduces the levels of pollutants and dust in your home.

Do you pressurize your home?

Pressurization is also part of the solution to pollution. When the clothes dryer and bathroom exhaust fans are running they are pumping air out of your house which depressurizes your home and causes greenhouse gases, fiberglass, pollen, mold spores and un-conditioned air to leak into your home. Pressurization pushes in the opposite direction keeping bad air out and maintaining a steady flow of filtered fresh and conditioned air.

Our assessment will reveal how your home “breathes”.  Your home needs fresh filtered outside air and pressurization. Because part of the solution to air pollution is dilution!

Our proprietary Filter Fresh Air Ventilation System “FFAVS” is a cost effective way to bring fresh, filter air into your heating and air conditioning system. The FFAVS is located outside; it comes with a year’s supply of inexpensive carbon filters which you simply change every season.

The carbon filters will remove greenhouse gases, landscaping chemicals, even radon as well as pollen, and mold spores from the air before it enters your home! Your home will have less dust and the air will be remarkably cleaner and refreshing.

The FFAVS solution is THE most cost effective solution you will find for crawlspace and living area ventilation.

Is your home tight, ventilated and insulated right?

Does your home have a musty odor, is it to dry and do the floors and molding contract and expand, do any of your family members suffer from mold allergies?

We offer complete and guaranteed mold remediation services including crawl space enclosure, air duct cleaning, and treatment with CleanSeal (which comes with a life time warranty.)  CleanSeal is non-toxic, odorless and clear; it is basically a thin spray-on plastic coating that seals and prohibits mold growth.  Indoor Environmental Systems, Inc. is the exclusive provider of CleanSeal within Raleigh-Durham, Cary, and Chapel Hill area.

Do you have warrantees against mold in your crawlspace, air ducts and attic?

IES transforms crawlspaces, air ducts, and attic into clean, energy efficient, mold free areas.

Is the air currently inside your home cleaner than the air outdoors?

An Air Quality Assessment Will Provide The Answer.

Most homes get there “fresh air” from the crawlspace, or through back drafting, or leaks in the thermal envelope (walls, windows etc).

If you have a new home you need to know the answer to these questions;

Has the drywall dust been removed from the air ducts?

It most likely rained during construction and your sealed crawlspace got wet. What guarantees do you have that there will not be any mold growth?

Ventilated crawlspaces don’t work as well in the Research Triangle Area as well as other subtropical climates because rain fall patterns, soil moisture content and humidity levels.

Vented crawl spaces tend to have moisture problems, mold, insects and rodent issues. It’s common for the crawlspace insulation to get moist which makes it ineffective. Moisture from the insulation is transferred to the wood. When the wood is wet mold will grow and insects will come to feed on the moisture in the mold. As heat rises the moist and moldy air from the crawl space enters the home through the plumbing, electrical and air ducts holes.

In 2008 a new building code was created that allows for a closed crawlspace. A close crawl space from Indoor Environmental Systems, Inc. is 15% more energy-efficient, and guaranteed not to grow mold.

During the solar assessment, a Pathfinder device will measure the solar exposure of your property so we can help you determine the feasibility of investing in solar energy.
